Chennai, Sep 30 (SocialNews.XYZ) Tamil Nadu has initiated the process of assessing two urban infrastructure projects worth Rs 220 crore, proposing a multipurpose commercial complex in Thanjavur and the redevelopment of an old bus stand in Thoothukudi through public-private partnerships.
The proposed commercial complex in Thanjavur Corporation is estimated to cost Rs 130 crore, while the redevelopment of the old bus stand in the Polpettai area of Thoothukudi Corporation is expected to require Rs 90 crore.
As a preliminary step, tenders have been invited under the Tamil Nadu government’s Project Development Grant Fund to appoint a consultant to prepare detailed feasibility reports and provide transaction advisory services for both projects.
The consultant will examine whether the proposed developments can be implemented with private participation and assess their financial viability. The study will help the authorities determine an appropriate partnership structure before proceeding with the selection of private developers.
For Thanjavur, the assessment will cover the proposed multipurpose shopping and commercial complex. In Thoothukudi, it will examine the redevelopment proposal for the existing bus stand at Polpettai. Both proposals remain at the project preparation stage, with the consultancy assignment intended to establish their feasibility and guide the subsequent implementation process.
The consultancy contract has been valued at Rs 50 lakh for preparing the detailed feasibility reports and undertaking the associated transaction advisory work. Bidders are required to furnish a deposit of Rs 50,000.
In addition to evaluating the projects, the selected consultant will advise the municipal corporations on the procedures necessary to implement them under the public-private partnership model.
The assignment will also include assistance in selecting the private company or companies that would undertake the developments. This support will form part of the transaction advisory responsibilities specified in the tender.
The feasibility exercise will therefore address both the practical prospects of implementing the proposals and their financial framework, providing the basis for decisions on private participation.
The deadline for submitting bids for the consultancy assignment is 11 a.m. on October 15. The tenders are scheduled to be opened at 12.30 p.m. the same day. The tender invitation concerns the appointment of a consultant for preparatory studies and advisory services. Selection of the private partners responsible for executing the Rs 130-crore commercial complex and Rs 90-crore bus stand redevelopment will follow the assessment and the prescribed partnership procedures for the two municipal projects.
